movies

Here are some of my favourite movies I want to recommend. This isn't a log or anything, these are just movies I really like and I want more people to see them. I am a simpleton when it comes to movies and as long as I'm entertained I'm good. Though I also like to listen to other people explaining their movie theories and break down what various scenes can mean. I am always in awe of people who understand stories to a deeper degree, since I personally have a hard time with this. Either way, these are my recommendations and I hope that you give them a watch.

convoy

genre: Action
year: 1978 (USA)
notes: A fun trucker film with lots of action! I love looking at old SFX, filming angles and fighting choreographies. I really like the music and the costume as well as the set design. It feels so realistic and still stays goofy to a certain degree. The storyline is simple in my opinion and I think this helps the movie feel light and engaging at the same time. I am not black so I cannot be sure when I mention this but I do believe that Spider Mike's arrest was a light social commentary on the injustices (especially from the law) that black people experienced and still do in Western countries, so IMO the movie does try to be deeper than it seems, though I am kind of unsure if it achieves that. I think the characters are written well without being too complicated, it really feels like you just met these people on a random roadtrip, no huge backstory besides a few fleeting comments on various events and the last time the MCs saw each other. The ending was very much a superhero ending and I personally love the hero archetype in movies, I think it is seen way less nowadays. I think a simple hero story can be super satisfying and while I believe media and art is meant to move someone and push them to think, I also enjoy simple well written stories from time to time. Weird sidenote but this movie feels kind of like an afternoon movie, you know, the ones your parents put on for you when they had to do some chores and wanted a little break but you didn't wanna leave their side. Either way, I definitely recommend this one.

Ethel and Ernest

genre: Animation
year: 2016
notes: If you wanna cry this is the movie. Thats' it. It's a movie about the love and life story of the author's parents. How they met, how they lived and how they spend their days. It is beautifully animated and I'm sure you've seen some clips of it around the internet. I recommend it with all my heart and I think it's just such a nice look into someone else's life. The movie is also nicely paced, full of colors and the dialogue is lovely. I don't have too much to add since the characters are/were real people and it's a personal story. I just recommend you watch it with the knowledge that you will cry, trust me.

Dracula (2025)

genre: Vampire Romance
year: 2025
notes: PLEASE DON'T COME AT ME IK THERE ARE BETTER DRACULA MOVIES LMAO!!! But I did enjoy watching this one. It's definitely one of them turn off your brain and watch type of deals. THe aestethics are wonderful and I also love the casting. I also love Christoph Waltz so yeah. I am surprised at the negative feedback it got from audiences but at the same time I enojy various movies that others might not, which is OK. I also think not every movie you watch has to be this extreme masterpiecce, some can just be pretty or simply enjoyable.
