notes: A fun trucker film with lots of action! I love looking at old SFX, filming angles and fighting choreographies. I really like the music and the costume as well as the set design. It feels so realistic and still stays goofy to a certain degree. The storyline is simple in my opinion and I think this helps the movie feel light and enganging at the same time. I am not black so I cannot be sure when I mention this but I do believe that Spider Mike's arrest was a light social commentary on the injustices (especially from the law) that black people experienced and still do in Western countries, so IMO the movie does try to be deeper than it seems, though I am kind of unsure if it achieves that. I think the characters are written well without being too complicated, it really feels like you just met these people on a random roadtrip, no huge backstory besides a few fleeting comments on various events and the last time the MCs saw eachother. The ending was very much a superhero ending and I personally love the hero archetype in movies, I think it is seen way less nowadays. I think a simple hero story can be super satisfying and while I believe media and art is meant to move someone and push them to think, I also enjoy simple well written stories from time to time. Weird sidenote but this movie feels kind of like a afternoon movie, you know, the ones your parents put on for you when they had to do some chores and wanted a little break but you didn't wanna leae their side. Either way, I definitely recommend this one. 8/10 ✪
